This website is about My Walk In the Woods.  This Blog is a great opportunity for me to journal each of my hikes, share pictures, and hopefully provide some additional details about the trails. To understand my motivation please visit my About page.

My dream for a long time has been to complete the North Carolina Mountains-to-Sea Trail. When I discovered the Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail’s 40 Hike Challenge, I knew that this would be the best way for me to finally start on my goal.  By working on this challenge, I could sample all the different segments of the MST, meanwhile planning my next phase of completing the entire trail.

UPDATE: On January 16, 2022 I completed the MST 40 Hike Challenge. I am now working to ‘connect-the-dots’. In other words, I plan on eventually completing the entire Mountains to Sea Trail – one hike at a time.

As you will see, these hikes are day hikes.  I am not Thru-hiking.  Right now, I am choosing to do as much as I can with extended day hikes, eventually pushing myself to see how far I can go.

I do know that there will be some sections of the MST (such as Great Smoky Mountains and Linville Gorge) that will require some overnight stays.  I look forward to preparing for those in the future.  Meanwhile, I will focus on day hiking as much of the MST as I can.

For the MST 40 Hike Challenge, you will see that each Blog entry is a different hike.  Those in the category of “40 Hike Challenge” are labeled according to the MST guide.   I did not hike all of these in the order of Hikes #1 – #40, for example, but I maintain the numbering system so that it corresponds with the MST guide.

Click on “40 Hikes” in the menu and you will see a list of all 40 Hikes with links to the Blog Posts.

I hope you find this Blog interesting, entertaining and hopefully will inspire you to get outside and enjoy the wonderful outdoors of North Carolina and beyond.  Please feel free to comment and let me know your thoughts and experiences.

See you out there!
